Ending Parkinson’s by Ray Dorsey, MD; Todd Sherer, PhD; Michael S. Okun, MD; and Bastiaan R. Bloem, MD, PhD is the most inspiring book I have read about Parkinson’s. It is extremely readable and understandable.
Part one discusses the discovery and history of the disease. It is written in story form, which makes the history absorbing.
Part two discusses the PACT - Preventing, Advocating, Caring, and Treating. The authors have started a movement and are asking everyone to become advocates for Parkinson’s. The goal is to totally eradicate Parkinson’s. It is estimated that there were 6.3 million people diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2015. The projection in 2040 for people diagnosed with Parkinson's is double that amount. Funding for Parkinson’s is quite low compared to other chronic diseases.
The third section is a call to action. There are twenty-five concrete ways given to help reduce the impact that Parkinson’s carries worldwide.
Their website offers more resources to assist with learning more about Parkinson’s and becoming an advocate to eradicate Parkinson’s. This book is critical to the Parkinson’s community. This is a must-read for anyone associated with Parkinson’s.
