Join us for our next PD Edu on Saturday, May 20 from 11am to Noon. "Fall Prevention with Exercise" will be presented virtually by Lisa Coors.
Most PWPs would like to stay independent for a long period of time in their homes, apartments, and condos. Learning what the common fall hazards are, along with why PWPs tend to fall, can help you to plan for a safer stay at home. By participating in this session, participants will learn:
5 commons fall hazards in the home
PD symptoms that can attribute to falls
Exercises that can assist in decreasing the chances of falls
Stance and mental cueing
Lisa Coors is a 30+ year Medical Exercise Specialist and Founder of the Move it or Lose it for PD program. She has been teaching her techniques to PWPs through classes and one-on-one sessions for over 20 years. To learn more about Lisa, check out her post on our blog!
There are many reasons fall prevention is so important. Falls can cause broken bones, head injuries or create day-to-day anxiety/fear of falling, making it difficult to do everyday activities. We want our PD community to stay active.
According to the CDC, emergency departments recorded 3 million visits for older adult falls in 2020. Besides attending our upcoming program, there are many things you can do to help prevent a fall. Continue to exercise and create stability. If a major concern, please speak with your doctor. Continue to see the eye doctor on a regular basis. At home, make sure your floors are tidy so you are less likely to trip.
